Done is better than perfect.
At first, this idea appalled me. How come done is better than perfect? Are we settling for mediocrity now? Is it the trend?
But having subconsciously following this mantra for more than 2 years yet, I found the grace and beauty in it. It is not as simple as accepting less than enough result. In product management, for instance, we have MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to be fully functional. Perfect? Nope, it’s always in the continuous improvement.
Had I aimed for perfection, I might never have published 3.67.
This idea is sneered at by people who aren’t brave enough to start sailing in choppy waters. We ingratiate our ego by procrastinating in the guise of finding the right everything.
Don’t chase perfection. Get yourself together and start working towards your dream. Persist because you have the nerve to crawl in the arena, while the onlookers just sit on the fence.
You can’t guarantee everything is in your favour, but there’s always one variable in your control: your effort. Perfection is an elusive goalpost, but you can get something done.
P.S.: And if it’s less than perfect? Then, you improve. What’s the point of being alive without growth?
